Australia’s first tech driven farm emissions reduction project by FLINTpro

GPSA Farm Emissions project

Grain Producers SA to apply our latest technology solution.

CANBERRA, AU, Sep. 6, 2022 — The ‘FLINTpro for Farms’ solution is set to be used for the first time by grain producers in South Australia in a pilot program of work led by FLINTpro Director of Science: Agricultural Emissions, Dr Natalie Doran-Browne.

‘FLINTpro for Farms’ is designed to help farmers evaluate, benchmark, and communicate the environmental footprint of their production.

“FLINTpro will support the sustainability targets of Grain Producers of South Australia as they work towards climate neutral farming that will boost the competitiveness of Australian grain products in export markets. New agricultural tools in FLINTpro allow the greenhouse gas emissions accounting process to be streamlined using international, best-practice methodologies. Understanding the level of emissions from grain production is the first step towards managing these emissions and this is made easy within FLINTpro’s established framework.” – Dr Natalie Doran-Browne, FLINTpro Director of Science: Agricultural Emissions.

FLINTpro technology leads the way globally with forest carbon reporting, and now farmers and the agricultural sector can benefit from the success of the FLINTpro data integration capability to bring together an entire farm view of emissions and farm property carbon stock report.

This project of work is called ‘Target Net Zero for Farms’ and it aims to create a system for grain producers to confidently and efficiently measure and report farm emissions and will involve 10 farms initially. Producers will apply the best practices in farm emissions reporting, tailored to their own grain operations.

The FLINTpro team will use a cradle-to-farm-gate approach, measuring the greenhouse gas output of on-farm activities, plus embedded emissions elsewhere in the supply chain – for example in fertilisers, chemicals, and diesel.

The joint State Government and Grains Producers SA (GPSA) funded project will be delivered by GPSA and FLINTpro’s agricultural team under the leadership of Dr Natalie Doran-Browne.

“We look forward to supporting South Australia’s Grain Producers with their goal to continuously improve world leading practices that support the reduction of emissions. Australia has some of the most efficient cropping systems in the world and we are pleased to be able to support these with our new advanced tools in FLINTpro .”  – Dr Rob Waterworth, FLINTpro CEO.
